Judging: Authentic South African Experience
Darryl Earl David
Lecturer and Founder of Book Town Richmond
David is a man of many hats – the only Indian lecturer of Afrikaans in SA; Founder of Book Town Richmond in the Karoo; pioneer of BookBedonnerd Book Festival, the Midlands Literary Festival in Howick and many, many more; author of three books on Country Churches of SA.
In 2017 Darryl led Durban to UNESCO City of Literature status, becoming the first city on the African continent to achieve this honour.
In 2019, he repeated this feat, spearheading Hermanus and the greater OVERSTRAND region to UNESCO City of Gastronomy status.
On being invited to judge for the Wine and Food Tourism awards, Darryl said “A lifetime of wining and dining the literati of SA, and a 20 year love affair with the region stretching from Rooi Els to Hermanus to Gansbaai has prepared me well for this new role.”
