Wine Tourism South Africa (WTSA) runs winetourism.co.za, the Wine Tourism Conference and The Wine Tourism Briefing, together with OnePoint Group. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, for readers in the UK and Europe, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What we collect and why

The Wine Tourism Briefing and conference updates

When you subscribe, we collect your name, email address, company or business and country. We use these to send you the emails you chose: The Wine Tourism Briefing, news about the Wine Tourism Conference, or both. We use your country, and the country of our readers as a whole, to understand where our audience is. We may share totals such as “40% of readers are outside South Africa” with partners and sponsors. We never share your name or email address with them.

We only email you if you have ticked the consent box. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can leave at any time.

Conference tickets

When you buy a ticket, we collect your name, contact details, company and payment details. Ticket sales and payments are handled by Commerce7, our ticketing provider. We do not see or store your full card number. We use your details to manage your booking, send you event information and issue invoices.

EFT invoice requests

If you ask us for an invoice to pay by EFT, we collect your name, email, phone number, company name, VAT number and billing address. We use these to issue your tax invoice and confirm your booking.

Contact forms

When you contact us through the website, we collect what you send us, such as your name, email address and message, and use it to reply to you.

Website visits

Like most websites, ours records technical information such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the site secure and understand how it is used. Cookies and similar technologies are explained in our Cookie Policy, and you can change your cookie choices at any time using the consent banner.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers who help us run our work, and only for that purpose:

Sender, which sends The Wine Tourism Briefing and our other emails
Commerce7, which handles conference ticket sales
Our website host and security providers, which keep the site running and protected
Our accountants and tax authorities, where the law requires it for invoices and payments

Some of these providers store information outside South Africa, including in the European Union and the United States. Where that happens, we use providers that are bound by data protection laws or agreements that give your information a similar level of protection to POPIA.

How long we keep it

Subscriber details: for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep only your email address on a suppression list, so we do not email you again by mistake.
Ticket and invoice records: for five years, as South African tax law requires.
Contact form messages: for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry.

How we protect it

Our website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), access to our systems is limited to the people who need it, and we use reputable providers with their own security measures. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you and the Information Regulator if a breach affects you.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

tell you what personal information we hold about you
correct information that is wrong or out of date
delete your information, where we are not required to keep it
stop using your information for marketing
